Brooknelle has been a beloved pet care facility for over 75 years, serving generations of pets and their families with unmatched dedication. Originally established in 1947, the business has passed through trusted hands, always maintaining its reputation as a caring and personalized home-away-from-home for pets. Now under the stewardship of Brian and Brittany, who bring decades of experience in animal care, Brooknelle continues its long-standing tradition of providing exceptional service to pet families.


Brian, with 35+ years of animal care experience, grew up working on his family farm and in a veterinarian’s office, honing his skills in pet care, dog training, and agility. Brittany, with a background in social work, brings her passion for animals to the forefront, treating every pet as an essential family member. Together, they are committed to maintaining Brooknelle’s reputation as a trusted, locally-owned pet care facility with the same owner since 2001.

Why We Are Transitioning from Brooknelle Pet Resort

to Brooknelle Pet Hotel

As Brooknelle evolves, we are transitioning from “Brooknelle Pet Resort” to "Brooknelle Pet Hotel" to better reflect the premium, personalized experience we offer. This shift from “Resort” to “Hotel” emphasizes our focus on creating a welcoming, homelike atmosphere for pets, with more thoughtful language that aligns with the care we provide.


The name change is part of our effort to modernize and elevate Brooknelle while maintaining the same trusted service. Although we’ve updated our language and enhanced our offerings, the heart of Brooknelle remains the same: the same building, the same dedicated training, but an even better experience for you and your pets. Locally owned and operated for over 75 years, we’re excited for this new chapter while honoring our rich history.

Policies and guidelines

Review our policies and guidelines to ensure a smooth, safe, and comfortable stay for your pet at Brooknelle Pet Hotel. Your pet’s well-being and safety are our top priorities.

  • Vaccination Requirements

    For the safety of all guests, current vaccinations are required:


    Dogs: Rabies, Bordetella, and Distemper

    Cats: Rabies and Distemper


    Please e-mail vaccination records to brooknellehotel@gmail.com before your pet’s arrival to ensure a smooth check-in process.

  • No Bite Policy

    To maintain a safe environment for both pets and staff, Brooknelle has a strict No Bite Policy. If a pet bites a staff member, the pet may not be allowed to return to Brooknelle for another visit. This policy ensures the safety and well-being of everyone at Brooknelle.

  • Visitor Policy

    We love meeting pet parents! Visitors are welcome during regular weekly business hours and no appointment is necessary for tours.

  • Boarding Guidelines

    Brooknelle offers flexible boarding options to fit your needs:


    Overnight boarding is available seven days a week.

    Daycare is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Grooming appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday with drop offs from 8 a.m.  to 10 a.m.

    Saturday grooming appointments now available!

    Whether your pet is staying overnight or just visiting for the day, we can't wait to spend time with them.

  • Business Hours

    Pets will not be accepted or released outside of regular business hours:


    BOARDING:

    Monday - Friday: 8 am to 6 pm

    Saturday: 8 am to 2 pm

    Sunday: 9 am to 12 noon


    DAYCARE:

    Monday-Friday: 7 am to 6 pm


    Please plan your visits accordingly to ensure a smooth drop-off and pick-up experience.

  • Where are you located?

    Brooknelle Pet Hotel is located at 4600 Knapp St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.

  • What should I bring for my pet's overnight stay?

    We encourage you to bring items from home to make your pet's stay more comfortable, such as beds, blankets, towels, toys, and nylabones. Please ensure that bedding is machine washable. You can also bring your pet’s food in a labeled, waterproof container, or we can provide Science Diet Sensitive Stomach food.

  • Can I call and get an update during my pets stay?

    Absolutely! We understand how important it is to stay connected with your pet. Feel free to call us for updates anytime during your pet’s stay. Pets are family; if able, we can send a quick photo of your pet.



  • Does my pet need to be vaccinated?

    Yes, all pets must be up to date on vaccinations.

    Please fax vaccination records to (616) 363-4245 before your pet’s arrival to ensure a smooth check-in process.

  • Does my dog get to play outside with other dogs?

    For the safety of all our guests, we do not blend dogs unless requested by pet parents who know each other. Each dog enjoys individual one-on-one attention and time in our spacious outdoor play areas.

  • Will you administer medication for my pet?

    Yes, we provide medication administration for any of our boarding guests at no additional charge. Please inform our staff of any medical needs during check-in, such as making sure the medication is clearly labeled and when and how to administer it. Clear directions are very important. Keeping your pet healthy is our top priority during their stay here at Brooknelle Pet Hotel.
